Ramen House in OSAKA: SHIO GENSUI

I’m trying something new here that I’m going be writing in English and Japanese. It might not be direct translation but expression of meanings should be close enough… Well, I just came back from Japan about a week ago visiting my family mainly to attend my grandfather’s seventh anniversary of his death. My grandmother who just turned 87 years old kept promising her three daughters including my mother that she is gonna take care of herself till this ceremony is accomplished. I had to attend it knowing how big this event meant to her.

Anyway, I’ll start with Ramen even though I have so much new experiences of delicious food from this trip. To tell you the truth, this place was recommended by my father who opened the door of cooking to himself after his retirement. The first thing you see as you walk in, this noodle making machine and back view of this man with serious focus. It’s a typical ramen house.  There are always voices crossing the room that we all know who ordered what. We helped ourselves to grab free Kimuchi, and within five minutes our ramen was served. I tend to order the original flavor to know the restaurant the first time. What amazed me about this natural Shio ramen was that they do not use any additives or preservatives. The flavor was so simple and yet satisfied with layers of UMAMI from all the ingredients. Yuzu peel was super playful in the broth, I can see their creativity through this never getting boring flavor.

。。My satisfied face with satisfied stomach made my father satisfied… seeing my father’s satisfied face made me satisfied… We headed out with this complete circle of satisfaction to see my grandma who lives in the nursing home.

Tomato for middle eastern dinner…

My husband is making efforts to go to the butcher shop on Saturday mornings while I clean the whole house… To get some protein for the meals and his favorite afternoon snack, freshly baked soft pretzel… He got us lamb to do middle eastern dinner for the Saturday… While he made his magic on protein, I prepped garnishes… Hummus, sautéed carrots, cheese, red pepper, arugula, and some pita… As we sat down at the table… He called for missing tomato… I found myself jumping up from the chair… And cut the half of a tomato with minimum steps… Thinking how my mother always did everything he asked for… Looking at my husband as I put the tomato on the table… Along gentle smiles on his face… Giving simple words to acknowledge my gesture… “Thank you-” was such a powerful words… ❤︎

A SNAKE in backyard pond…
We knew there was a small snake crowing around on our deck in back yard… but I happened to see a snake sunbathing by the water, and swam down to hide under the rock after I noticed him… Im not sure what the name of this snake but seem like it’s not harmful size at all… maybe a food long… I just hope small frogs are safe… wildness in Saugerties NY…

Penelope  the Cat ♥

Ever since I met Penelope almost 6 years ago, my dream that once was impossible became possible… I have a strong allergy reaction to almost all the cats but not her… I call it miracle… considering I fell in love with her dad ( he calls himself her mommy) and started living together after dating about a year… now she is my only cat that I ever hang out on the same bed and cuddle with blankets of kisses…

This afternoon I threw her on the bed and starting petting her with big lazy sunday love… she started rolling around with some lovely facial expressions along the loudest and longest purrs… Her tails were syncing with the rhythms of my shutter sounds…

She sometimes has to be alone at the house when we are busy working in the city… I feel bud about it all the time… so I try to make up the quality time whenever I can… Such a peaceful way to spend afternoon in the county… cheers to my beautiful girl… ♥

It’s getting so hot at night… that I need to turn the AC on for my husband… It’s something about sleeping in ACed room for me that irritates my stomach following morning… few years ago when I went back to Japan, I found this amazing cotton fabric with 3 pockets for Ice packs at MUJI, and since then my summer sleeps have been so much easier… Lately I’ve been combining this neck wrap with Peppermint Essential Oil on the bottom of my feet… after taking cold food bath for 15 mins while I write my journal… You can easily make your own… I’ve been looking for another one for my husband, but seems like it’s been discontinued… well another project for me to work on♥

Hiking trail to Catskill mountain house…

It was my husband’s birthday on Father’s Day… We went to hike to see the view of hudson valley from where catskill mountain house once used to be…
Closer to clouds then Woodstock overlook view point… It was just breathtaking moment to share…
We are so happy to live close by those beautiful nature and historic parts of New York that no one knows…

High Line Art Billboard Installation…
I used to walk by this bill board spot everyday for 3 years when I first moved to NY. It’s been always inspiring to my soul and I look forward to what’s next. Finally did some research and found out that high line has the artist’s information on their website…. I would love to start documentary project to chase after these inspiring art installations.

OPUS40…
Our house is less than 1mile from this amazing park called OPUS40… It blows your mind knowing the fact… One man named Harvey Fite spent 37 years of his life to built sculpture park in the old bluestone quarry… And the mountain in distance is his blueprint for the park… We are so sure that we gonna go back so many times… We got memberships and can’t wait to discover more every visit…

Rainy spring in NYC…
Tonight I hear cars running outside my window making different noise… Tires are making splashy sound… And rain is hitting so hard on ground…
These are my spring snaps from last week… Can’t wait to see my backyard this weekend…

Be Yourself!!!
the Mother Nature give you tough challenges, obstacles that is too high in your sight… but what can you do??? just wining like a baby… and not moving forward??? NON SENCE…
JUST BE YOURSELF and KEEP GROWING THE WAY YOU THINK IT’S BEST!!! and You will have these unique but beautiful pair of legs like this carrot has!!!
I had been super lazy about myself… and This message is not for anyone else but for myself…

So… October 20th was our 5th year anniversary since we decided to get in this relationship… It’s been the most exciting and adventurous 5 years with my husband now…

We got married in Japan on March 30th 2013… and got another party in Catskills NY on August 10th… and on 5th year anniversary, we decided to go browsing our first house… After narrowing down into 4 houses after looking so many online… we took that Sunday afternoon to the town next to Woodstock… and fell in love with one house…

There are few laughable down sides… like tiny tiny spiral stair case… head banging wall above the dryer…  but its all about the main room… where we spend the majority of our time…. Kitchen and LivingRoom… and Location was just too perfect! The process was super painful for my husband and father in-law… It’s all done and its all ours now!!!

I still cant believe this is happening… but our parents are super excited for us… They know the exact feeling of this “owing the first house” themselves… 33 years ago… We still have lots to do to make this house the way we want…

We are super close to Red Onion, the Smokehouse of the Catskills, and all the waterfalls that we fell in love with… Well… our parents expectation for the next step is getting bigger and bigger now…♥

Foggy day makes everything so mysterious and so beautiful… It was a foggy all day long yesterday in NYC… I was walking in SoHo after work… There were two men taking photos towards me and waiting for me to pass… I had to look back to see what made them so serious about taking photos… There it is… The freedom tower is dressing up in the fog… Jet clouds are making even more dramatic with sunset side light… I just whispered “thank you” to these two men who gave me a chance to discover this beautiful scene…
Hope everyone enjoyed the full moon last night…

Happy New Year~~~~
It’s been quite some time sine I post something here last time…
2013 was such an awesome year… We got married twice in Osaka, Japan and Catskills, New York… Happiness around Family and Friends are the best kind… Especially when good food are served!!!
We got together with my sister and her husband for the new years eve… got some ramen noodles to make up for Toshi-Koshi-Soba (Japanese tradition to eat buckwheat noodle at the end of the year)… and went to a home party where our friend took us…
Another traditional food for new year is Osechi-Ryori which I never even tried to prepare in my life… After seeing a lot of Facebook posts that my Japanese friends made… I made a promise to myself to try for the next year… For this year… we luckly had my sister inviting us for quiche brunch…
Keeping tradition will be the key for 2014 since we are expecting 2014 to be the life upgrading year… moving into the new house… buying a new car… and adapting a dog… Wishing you all the best luck for the new year!!!
